A Great Teacher Submitted by Shawyon Malek on Oct 08, 2018
When I was about 6-7 years old, I started violin lessons with Mr. Voitsekh. I studied with Mr. Voitsekh for nearly 11.5 years through elementary, middle, and high school, and even after college. Mr. Voitsekh enabled me to understand violin techniques, and music of the classical repertoire, with confidence. After studying with him for nearly 8-10 years, I learned some of the most difficult pieces by Nicolo Paganini, including La Campanella. I was also selected to be soloist with my high school orchestra playing La Campanella, and Navarra by Sarasate. I also learned many great/difficult pieces such as solo Bach 1st and 2nd Sonata and Partita, Tchaikovsky Valse-Scherzo, Mozart Concert no. 4, Mendelssohn Violin Concerto, Zigeunerweisen by Sarasate, Wienawski Polonaise in D Major, Paganini Caprices, Tzigane by Ravel, Ysaye Sonata No 3, and more. During my time training with him I also became Principal 2nd Violinist of the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra, which is arguably the best youth orchestra we have in the bay area, and Concertmaster of my high school orchestra. I've now gone on to continue violin as a professional, and without a doubt, can say it is because of Mr. Voitsekh's training that I am performing where I am today. Mr. Voitsekh is a gifted instrumental instructor and a great teacher - he knows violin techniques and repertoire inside and out, and is one of the most caring individuals I have met in my life. I am happy to recommend Mr. Voitsekh as an instructor of violin for any one, at any age, and any level.
